I used to have a template for everything and anything that I might ever need in my Vault. With Obsidian.md offering me new found power through plugins like Dataview though, I have found myself wanting to limit my choices in a more controlled manner. These days I bulk import things like Spells, Monsters, Items, etc. For this reason I don't need Templates for those things as they usually already exist in my Vault. What I do use though are templates for the following. - Groups - Magic Items - NPCs - Settlements These templates have a number of pre-requisites and are designed to work specifically in my vault. You won't be able to cut and paste these directly but with a bit of work you should be able to modify them for your own needs. ## How Do They Work? To simplify the use of these Templates I use the [Buttons](obsidian://show-plugin?id=buttons) plugin. When I press the button, it creates a new Note, puts that note is a specified folder, applies the template and prompts me to name the note. The nice thing about this is that it puts the Note where I want it to go. NPCs go in the NPC folder and Locations go in the Region folder. This is very handy for more complex queries with Dataview. > [!info]- Example Usage > ![[Obsidian_NNT51d7CjY.gif]] ### Requires Plugins To use these Templates you require the following plugins. [Buttons](obsidian://show-plugin?id=buttons) - I use this to trigger the template instead of having to press a hotkey. This is a requirement as it sets the name of the file to something specific which Templater can then work with. [Templater](obsidian://show-plugin?id=templater-obsidian) This is the primary requirement and is used to put the note in the required folder, rename the note and apply the template. [Dataview](obsidian://show-plugin?id=dataview) Used in some templates to generate content. [DB-Folder](obsidian://show-plugin?id=dbfolder) Used in some templates to generate content. [Initiative Tracker](obsidian://show-plugin?id=initiative-tracker) Used in some templates to generate content. [Fantasy Statblocks](obsidian://show-plugin?id=obsidian-5e-statblocks) Used in some templates to generate content. [Second Window](obsidian://show-plugin?id=image-window) Used to show images to my players using a player facing screen. ### Template NPC [[Template New NPC]] ### Template Group ### Template Settlement ### Magic Item
